Our shoe care advice

Few men take care of their shoes. Leather, premium material par excellence, is living, which means time and environment will have impact on it. Leather that hasn’t been nourished will end up cracking and shoes stored without shoetrees will shrink and lose their shape. As it is said "you can judge a man by his shoes", and so it is a shame to neglect taking care of your favourite shoes.

The Paulus Bolten shoe collection are entirely handmade in the finest tradition with high quality leathers coming from most famous tanneries, which means some minutes of weekly care will allow you to wear them for years.

First, some simple advise to apply on a daily basis:

  • Always slip your shoes on using a shoe-horn, not to damage seams on the back

  • Never wear the same shoes two consecutive days, to allow some rest to the leather

  • Shoetrees will absorb moisture from the leather and retain the shape of your shoes longer if put immediately after wearing

  • Brush your shoes every-time you remove them to avoid the dust from becoming embedded in leather pores

  • Leather needs to be regularly nourished

Cleaning

Clean and nourish deeply the leather every 4-5 cream applications.

  1. Put some crème délicate on an old cotton shirt and rub the leather to remove polish paste layers, which will nourish the leather deeply

  2. This technique can lighten the leather colour. If you wish to keep the same leather colour, it is advised to apply crème de beauté after.
